Kingman’s nonprofit community theatre—see what’s on stage next.

A FOUNDER’S LETTER

On a desert stage, bright lights, and the small-town magic that keeps us coming back

There’s a particular kind of quiet that settles into our theatre in Kingman just before the house opens—programs stacked, props placed, a last look at the set, and then the murmur of neighbors finding their seats. Honest Affair Theatre Co. grew from that feeling: the belief that stories told live, by people you recognize from the grocery store or your kid’s school, can change an ordinary night into something you carry home.

We’re a nonprofit community theatre because we want the doors to stay open for everyone—first-time audience members, seasoned theatre lovers, and the folks who’ve never set foot onstage until a friend dared them to audition. Every production is a team effort: volunteers painting flats, cast members learning lines after work, donors helping with rights and costumes, and local supporters showing up even when the parking lot is full.

Our mission is simple: make theatre that’s welcoming, honest, and worth the drive—whether you’re coming from across town or across Mohave County. We aim to create a safe place to learn, to laugh, to feel something real, and to take creative risks together. Some nights that looks like a big musical; other nights it’s a play that sparks conversation on the way to the car.

If you’re reading this, you’re already part of the story. Come see what’s on our stage, browse the archive for a few favorite memories, or reach out if you’d like to volunteer, sponsor a show, or lend a hand backstage. We’ll keep doing the work—carefully, joyfully, and together.

Thank you for supporting local art in Kingman. We can’t wait to see you in the seats.

OUR FOUNDER

Alex Ramirez

Founder & Artistic Director · Est. 2014

Alex Ramirez started Honest Affair Theatre Co with a simple goal: make high-quality theatre feel local, welcoming, and possible in Kingman. What began as a small group of neighbors reading plays around a table grew into a nonprofit producing full seasons, creating roles for performers of all ages, and building a home for volunteers, students, and first-time audience members. Alex leads with a director’s eye and a teacher’s patience—championing bold storytelling, respectful rehearsal rooms, and the belief that community theatre works best when everyone has a place onstage or behind the scenes.

“If you’ve ever thought, ‘I wish Kingman had more theatre’—you’re the reason we’re here. Come be part of it.”
